How does surrogacy work?

A surrogate mother is a woman who carries a baby full term for aspiring parents who cannot create their own family. The first step of the surrogacy process for couples who want to use a surrogate is to create a profile with a surrogacy agency. The agency will help them meet with potential surrogates and find someone who fits them. Once a couple has found a surrogate, the next step is medical and psychological screening. A legal contract will be written after the surrogate passes the medical screening. The intended parent(s) and the surrogate will have separate legal representation, paid for by the intended parent(s). It is a legal requirement to have a written contract, and this ensures the surrogacy process goes smoothly and that both parties agree with all the various parts of the process. The next step will be cycling and embryo transfer for the surrogate to become pregnant. Then, the real journey begins!
