This blog reflects an exciting episode from the Fertility Frontier Podcast, where we dive deep into topics surrounding egg donation, surrogacy, infertility, and more. In this insightful conversation, Christine, HHH Surrogacy Program Manager, shares her journey as a surrogate, her personal experiences, and her passion for helping intended parents on their path to parenthood.

The Surrogacy Calling

Christine's journey into surrogacy began with a profound realization during the early days of motherhood. As a single mom, she couldn't fathom the idea of someone longing to become a parent and not being able to fulfill that dream. This empathy led her to explore surrogacy, even when this path to parenthood wasn't widely practiced in Canada.

A Decade of Surrogacy

Christine's journey as a surrogate wasn't without its challenges. She faced setbacks and shifts in intended parent matches during her introduction to surrogacy. However, in 2014, she found her stride with a set of Intended Parents, determined to start a family.

Despite a heartbreaking miscarriage, they persevered and eventually welcomed twin boys. Christine's connection with these parents was profound and enduring, and today, they live just minutes away from her. Christine also continues a caring friendship with the two other families she has carried children for - making five surro-babies altogether!

Love, Support, and Connections

The surrogacy journey wasn't just about the babies; it was about building lasting connections with the intended parents.

Christine cherishes the bonds made with her former surro-families as if they were her own. Witnessing the joy these families now experience fills her with immeasurable happiness.

Her heartfelt insights continue sharing that the act of surrogacy itself represents the parents' dream and the realization of their dreams comes with the birth of their baby, while her own fulfillment is found and dream come true moment is witnessing the family’s growth.

A Unique Perspective on Surrogacy

Christine highlights the importance of relationships in Canadian surrogacy, given that it's illegal to be compensated for pregnancy. The surrogacy process in Canada is driven by genuine connections, trust, and emotional support, which is why she was excited to help create a surrogacy support program at Her Helping Habit. This program aims to foster a partnership among the agency, intended parents, and surrogates, ensuring everyone feels heard and supported throughout their journeys. Christine is passionate about helping others create fulfilling and heartfelt journeys.

A Call to Research and Connection

For those interested in surrogacy, whether as intended parents or surrogates, Christine offers valuable advice: research and connection. The surrogacy journey is multifaceted and deeply personal so, understanding the process is crucial.
