Fertility Matters 6K Surrey 2026: Join the Lower Mainland Fertility Community

By: Katie Paquin

This October 4th, Her Helping Habit is helping bring the Fertility Matters 6K back to the Lower Mainland for the second year in a row. After a successful event at Stanley Park in Vancouver last year, we’re doing it again, this time in Surrey at Green Timbers Urban Forest.

With this year’s event moving from Vancouver to Surrey, we’re looking forward to welcoming participants from across Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, including Surrey, Vancouver, Langley, White Rock, Delta, Richmond, Burnaby, Coquitlam and surrounding communities.

For our team, the Fertility Matters 6K is a chance to step outside of our everyday work in egg donation, embryo donation and surrogacy and support the wider fertility community we’re a part of. We hope to raise awareness, bring people together, support the important work of Fertility Matters Canada, and we hope you’ll join us too.

What Is the Fertility Matters 6K?

The Fertility Matters 6K, or FM6K, is a national community movement organized by Fertility Matters Canada in support of more accessible and equitable fertility and family-building care. The six-kilometre distance also carries a special meaning. It represents the 1 in 6 Canadians who experience infertility.

Participants across Canada can walk, run, wheel or move in whatever way works for them, either through a local in-person event or virtually. Funds raised through the FM6K support fertility and family-building awareness, education and advocacy across Canada. This year, the Fertility Matters 6K takes place October 3-4, 2026.

Why Her Helping Habit Is Returning for a Second Year

Her Helping Habit works every day with people building their families through egg donation, embryo donation and surrogacy. Through that work, we see firsthand just how much can go into a fertility journey. There are medical appointments and financial considerations, counselling and legal processes, periods of waiting, exciting milestones and sometimes difficult setbacks. For many people, the path to becoming a parent looks very different from what they once imagined. All FM6K proceeds support FMC’s federal advocacy for universal, equitable fertility and family-building care in Canada.

Anyone Can Participate

The Fertility Matters 6K is not only for people currently going through IVF or fertility treatment. You might join because you have experienced infertility yourself, built your family through IVF, egg donation, embryo donation or surrogacy, or supported someone you love through a fertility journey. You might be an egg donor or surrogate. You might work in fertility care. You might just believe Canadians deserve better access to fertility and family-building support.

And you definitely do not need to be a runner. The FM6K is about participation and community, not finishing times. You are welcome to walk, run, push a stroller or move at your own pace.

Why Supporting Fertility Matters Canada Matters

Access to treatment, financial barriers, fertility benefits, public awareness and access to reliable information affect people throughout Canada. Fertility Matters Canada works nationally to provide support and education and to advocate for more equitable access to fertility and family-building care. A major part of that advocacy is pushing for better provincial funding for fertility care across Canada. Because access to publicly funded fertility treatment varies significantly from province to province, where someone lives can have a major impact on what care is available to them and what they may need to pay out of pocket.

Fertility Matters Canada’s mission is to pressure governments to recognize infertility as a medical disease, raise awareness of its broad impacts, and ensure nationwide access to fertility care and education. Because of their advocacy, only one province and one territory remain without funding for fertility treatment, but there’s still a lot of work to be done to ensure equitable access nationwide.
